-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Week 2 - 7/6-7/12

1 Peter

Read: 1 Peter Chapter 2

Questions / Discussion:

    1.     What does the word “therefore” mean in verse 1 (hint re-read 1      Peter 1:22 – 2:3)? What did Peter just finish saying about the word of God? Because of this, what does Peter want the recipients of the letter to do in the future?

2.     In verse 1 Peter instructs the people that they are to put aside many things.  What specifically did he want them to get rid of?  Are any of these things issues in your life now or in the past?  How can you avoid these things moving forward?

3.     Discuss the reference to “pure milk” in verse 2.  What is it?  Who longs for it?  What happens if you have it?

4.     Peter refers to Christ as the “cornerstone” in verse 6.  What does this mean to you?

5.     Why do you think “behavior” is so important to non-believers (verses 12-21)?

6.     How do you feel about the instruction to endure mistreatment in verse 20?

7.     In verse 19 Peter says that being submissive to unreasonable masters “finds favor” with God.  The word for “favor” is the same word that is translated “grace” in other places in the bible.  If you look at this verse again and substitute “grace” in for “favor” it is a great word picture of how we can give “grace” to those who mistreat us.  When we do this we pass along the grace that we have received (completely undeserved) from Christ.

8.     What is the purpose that Peter is referring to in verse 21?

9.     What has been the most impactful thing you learned this week?  Why?

4.     Peter gives instructions for living a godly life in verses 13-17.  Reread these instructions.  Which of them was most impactful for you?

5.     Read verse 6 - 9 again.  How does this relate to the hardships you are enduring currently?  How do Peters words make you feel?
