After meeting with the principal of Barnett Elementary last week, it was pretty clear to me we were cleared to use their facility. We had to fill out the paperwork and get it signed off by the district office and the principal. I took care of that last week. I then communicated with you and our church at large that we had a facility starting in August.
BUT…Then came Monday morning
Just got off the phone with the Barnett Elementary. The principal has decided not to approve our request for the use of the school. This came as a complete surprise to me, although I totally understand his reasons for his decision. This is his first year at this particular school and he believes it would be best to have as little change and wrinkles in the system as possible during all of the transitions of the first year.
Where do we go next?
We pray. Make a few phone calls. We pray some more. Then we pray again. We don’t call the school district or Barnett Elementary.
What are our options?
We’ve pursued all of our leading options. At this point all of them have not worked out for one reason or another. We may pursue some plan B, C, and D options now. One thing we won’t do is panic. We’re going to live out the truth of Philippians where Paul tells them – and us!- “Don’t worry about anything. Pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done for you – and the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds.”
I loved the reaction of someone in our church: "Wow! Well we just get to have to trust God!"

GOOD NEWS! BARNETT ELEMENTARY WILL BE OUR NEXT HOME!!
We have been approved by the principal to use Ysabel Barnett Elementary in Harveston for Sunday mornings. We are signing the contract next week and will now be working to make this transition happen. Barnett Elementary is in the Harveston development about a mile north of where we meet now. Head up Margarita past Winchester - turn left on Harveston School Road and you're there!

RIO NEDO UPDATE
After reviewing some of the significant issues that came up with the inspectors, the owner has decided it would be best to convert his building back into office and commercial warehouse space. This is not a surprise, nor is it disappointing. All the signs seemed to be pointing to this kind of decision.
Keep praying dilgently for the decision on Barnett Elementary School. Pray for receptivity on the part of the leaders who make the decisions. The Bible says it and history confirms it: that the heart of the king is in the hand of God. He can change and move the leaders of super power nations. He can certainly move in the heart of the principal of this school. He seems open to the idea of us being there next year but there are some hurdles we still have to deal with. We are meeting with him next week after school is out.

DAY MIDDLE SCHOOL
The school district has agreed to allow us to stay at Day Middle School through the end of July. This does give us a little more time to work out the details on our other options.
RIO NEDO - FORMERLY SAFE HARBOR
Building, Planning, and Fire Inspectors have given us an overview of some of the issues that will need to be resolved on the Rio Nedo property (formerly Safe Harbor Church). We are prayerfully considering how and if we should proceed.
YSABEL BARNETT
We have also submitted a request to use Ysable Barnett Elementary School. This school is in Harveston right off of Margarita about a mile after you cross over Winchester. The location and visibility are ideal. Some of the tricky issues here relate to limited classroom space and onsite storage.
DEVELOPING SITUATION
Just yesterday we were made aware of another potential space available for lease. We don't have enough information to share any details on this. It looks like an intersting possibility. We'll let you know as we discover more about this
SATURDAY OR SUNDAY NIGHT AT AN EXISTING CHURCH
A church here in our valley is considering our proposal to use their facilities on Saturday or Sunday evening. This would be a fall back short term option if none of our other options work out.

THE SITUATION
Two weeks ago the school district notified us that they would not be renewing our contract for Day Middle School for next year. Our current contract runs out on the last Sunday in June. We approached the principal to see if we could work out something in order to stay for one more year. He told us that this wouldn’t work out due to some changes and programs for next year. We asked the district office for an extension for four to six weeks. They denied this request.
OPTIONS
As we began to explore different options for our next meeting location, two kinds of facilities emerged:
Short term: Facilities we could get into within ten weeks
Long term: Facilities we could get into in a six to eighteen month time frame
Some of these long term facility options may work out, but because we have a short time frame, we are not aggressively pursuing these right now. We need to find a place within the next nine weeks. Once we find a place to land for a while, we will probably pursue some of these long term options.
SO WHERE ARE WE GOING TO LAND?
Two facility options are before us right now. First, we have submitted a facility request with the school district for other open school sites.
Second, our main option is a former church property on Rio Nedo - the main cross section is Winchester and Diaz road. We are currently negotiating the terms with the owner. This facility option was presented to us a few weeks ago. You may remember that I felt that for reasons I really couldn’t explain at the time, God impressed me to walk away from this option.
So why are we pursuing this now?
At the time we had the option of meeting at Day Middle School. Clearly, that option is not available to us any longer. So we felt we should take a second look at this property on Rio Nedo. But I believe a bigger reason explains why we said no to this a few weeks ago.
If we had agreed to this four weeks ago, we would have signed a five year lease. Had we signed that lease, we would have missed several exciting long term potential options. They would not have surfaced and we would not have explored any of these because we already had a place.
Right now we are negotiating the terms of the contract. Please pray for the people involved in this process. We would like favorable financial terms. We are also asking for a short term lease agreement so that we are not locked into a long term commitment in case God opens up other plans for us.
These long term plans are still so preliminary that it would not be wise to go into the details right now. As God leads us and we know more, we will be forthcoming with future plans.
PRAY
Pray for wisdom, discernment and God’s guidance. And if you get overwhelmed with all of the details and don’t know what to pray, just ask God to BE BIG! That he would be glorified and at the end we would be able to say that this was only God!
